Welcome Message

OSCAR MOTSWAGAE AMBASSADORWelcome to the website of the Embassy of the Republic of Botswana in Japan.

While Japan has been a good friend of Botswana since independence, our country is still not well known in Japan. It is our hope that this website will go a long way in revealing the beauty and peaceful nature of our country which is located at the heart of Southern Africa, thus making Botswana more familiar to the Japanese people, as well as provide practical information.

Botswana has been called “the honour student of Africa”. Since Botswana’s peaceful independence in 1966, she has enjoyed stable and uninterrupted democratic rule, and has received international acclaim for her good governance and prudent macro-economic management. The website gives an overview of Botswana’s history and culture and information about her trade and economy, as well as the various opportunities and benefits of doing business in Botswana.

Our country is rich in natural resources, and especially known for two gifts of nature: Botswana is the world’s largest producer of gem-quality diamonds, and is also home to a stunning array of nature and wildlife, including such attractions as the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and the Kalahari Desert. The people of Botswana are warm, friendly and are eager to welcome visitors to this “last Eden on earth”. Please see the section on tourist information for an introduction to Botswana’s offering to the discerning traveller.

We hope you will find this website informative and useful, and that it will further strengthen bilateral relations between our two countries.
