Botswana is a very dry, semiarid land. The northern two-thirds of the country
lies within the tropics. Daytime temperatures of 27 degrees Celsius may drop
to below freezing point occasionally during the night.
The rainfall ranges from 600mm in the Northwest to 250mm
in the southern part. The rainfall is extremely unpredictable therefore there
are frequent droughts.

(September - April) Frequent rain and thunderstorms; days and nights are very hot, but cooling off after rain spells. |

VEGETATION
Eastern Botswana is shrub land with umbrella shaped acacia species. Mophane is very common in the north and the baobab is seen around the makgadikgadi and eastern Botswana (Bobirwa area).
The Kgalagadi has undulating sand dunes, short shrubs and a horizonless grassland with fossil rivers.
Typography: More than two thirds of the country is covered
by the Kalahari sands, with fossil rivers and fossil lakes, while eastern
Botswana is dotted with low hills, bare rocks and few perennial rivers. Large
surfaces of water are found in the North West; Okavango, Moremi and Chobe
rivers.
